The National Partnership for Women & Families is a nonprofit located in Washington, D.C. that works to promote workplace equity, reproductive health and rights, access to quality, affordable health care, and policies that help parents and caregivers meet the dual demands of work and family.
The National Partnership received funding from Atlantic Philanthropies to support its Campaign for Better Care (CBC), a project that aims to move the system toward better care for older adults—particularly those with multiple chronic conditions and those most vulnerable due to income, race/ethnicity, and health. The National Partnership was strongly committed to the sustainability and spread of this work beyond the period of grant funding. With designated financial assistance from Atlantic Philanthropies, the National Partnership worked with Impact Catalysts (as its predecessor firm, Root Cause) to explore both potential business models that would generate ongoing revenue to support its CBC work, as well as the potential for a more formalized relationship with a leading provider of technical assistance and training to health care providers. We conducted a thorough market assessment and feasibility study to identify potential business models that would generate sufficient and sustainable revenue to enable the spread of this work on a much broader scale. Impact Catalysts completed the business plan for CBC in 2014 and continued to work with the National Partnership after its completion to provide follow-on strategic support around plan implementation.
In 2015, Impact Catalysts (as its predecessor firm, Root Cause) continued its partnership with the National Partnership to develop an organization-wide business plan, working in collaboration with the management team and the board of the National Partnership. Impact Catalysts worked with the National Partnership to develop a multi-year business model, which included a financial model for projecting the impact of spending on the endowment. We guided the organization through strategic choices related to its financial model, operational strategies, and program activities, and we mapped the timelines and benchmarks for implementing its strategies over a three-year period.
